Le Genève's case is made of hollowed out 316L stainless steel and is half Rose Gold coloured with scratch resistant sapphire glass. Sapphire crystal is used by most high-end watchmakers as it scores a solid 9 out of 10 on the Mohs mineral hardness scale, just below diamond, making it even more scratch resistant than mineral glass.
Le Genève's sophisticated looking dial is champagne coloured and deep pressed with rose gold coloured hour markers matching the hour hand, minute hand and sweep seconds hand. There are second and 0.2 second index markers around the chapter ring in sharp crisp black.
Le Geneve’s beating heart is a highly accurate mechanical automatic movement which has a power reserve of 38 hours and can also be hand-wound. Sweep seconds fans will be delighted as the watch beats at 28,800 VPH providing a smooth buttery seconds rotation and with 25 jewels watch movement enthusiasts will probably recognise similarity to the ETA 2824-2.
Le Geneve’s automatic mechanical movement is the PT5000, manufactured by Chinese makers H.K. Precision Technology (HKPT). Already highly regarded and a relatively recent addition to their offerings, the PT5000 is a clone of the ETA 2824 watch movement, commonly known as the benchmark for automatic swiss-made movements. You may have experienced this design from many brands including Tudor, Hamilton, Sinn, Stowa and more.
Chinese-made movements have a generalisation associated with them that they’re ‘poor quality’ and ‘unreliable’ but HKPT were determined to challenge this perception so they took their highest grade version of the PT5000 to Glashutte in Germany to have its accuracy reviewed by the Chronometer Observatory. (This couldn’t be completed at COSC as they only test Swiss movements). "According to the China Horologe Association, the standard set by the Chronometer Observatory at Glashutte is the world's most rigid. The observatory has seven testing categories, and only allows a mechanical watch a deviation ranging from minus 3.8 seconds to plus 5.8 seconds within a day" - ChinaDaily.com
Since then the movement has become China’s first watch movement to reach the accolade of chronometer certification. So in our eyes, the PT5000 has proved itself as a fantastic alternative to the ETA, aligning well with our beliefs and aims with the Louis De Valois range.
Le Genève sits on a luxury brown Italian Calf Leather strap measuring 22mm in width and it is water resistant to 5ATM.
